the same disciplined approach used by large institutional
funds for the design and implementation of your
portfolio. We do this by having a series of meetings
with you.
We get to know our client very
well before we make recommendations. We discuss
your investment goals and objectives. We construct
a complete financial profile of you and your family.
We check tax status, liquidity needs, income needs
and how long your funds must last. We ask you whether
an inheritance is planned or will all the funds
have to be consumed. We give clients an investment
tutorial covering important investment principles.
We educate clients about rational investment expectations.
We answer your investment questions.
We have a strong teaching orientation.
You wouldn't build a house
without a blueprint. Likewise, you must have a plan
before you invest. We select a portfolio that meets
the risk-reward criteria of our client. We use the
same modeling software and data assumptions that
are used by large institutions. We focus on the
control of risk by optimally diversifying among
asset classes and differing investment styles within
asset classes. We explain how the portfolio has
performed in the past. We dig into the details of
the design and clearly explain the risk and reward
performance of the portfolio.
You now know how we propose
to invest your funds. You completely understand
our process. Together we must decide whether to
proceed with a relationship. We are not the right
advisor for every client. You may not be the right
client for us. Up to this point there has been no
fee.
You open brokerage accounts
at a custodian and arrange to transfer your funds.
The accounts are in your name, not ours. We have
permission to trade the account and have our advisory
fee paid from it automatically. Our fee begins.
We implement low-cost portfolios
by using institutional mutual funds not available
to clients with smaller accounts. Our portfolio
mutual fund expenses are typically one-third of
the average portfolio using retail funds. Our clients
typically pay one-half or less of the costs retail
customers pay for custody. We pass both these savings
on directly to the client.
We provide periodic performance
measurement, monthly accountings and offer regular
review meetings with clients. You can also request
a meeting with us anytime you feel the need. You
will know exactly how you are doing.
